After working in veterinary medicine, building multiple practices over 20+ years and achieving many desired goals, pursuing specialization seemed like the optimum next achievement. At that moment in time, specialties such as internal medicine, radiology and oncology were gaining momentum in the small animal field, much like medicine for human beings. A masters in surgery was the clear target to accomplish, until my interest fell short. After contemplation, the realization hit me that my true interest fell along the lines of the other side of veterinary medicine: business and finance, and for good reason, there was a major void in many practices that was self-evident.
But what few practitioners, and for that matter, business owners, realize is that strategic moves in how you allocate discretionary income and utilize financial tools in synchronization produce profitability to meet financial objectives more efficiently and effectively. Business strategy and financial planning opened my mind to another recourse: income capable of regenerating itself exponentially.
Understanding financial targets and what is necessary for growth, revenue generation, profitability and personal financial, makes it possible to structure resource utilization in a way that builds wealth.
I adopted an “entrepreneurial mindset” to financial strategies, in which financial actions delve into both an offensive and defensive perspective, and prioritize risk on margins of acceptability.
This single viewpoint gave the capability to implement effective cash flow controls and funding mechanisms without having to give away all or part of my business practice to reach goals or retire. The design of highly efficient financial strategies, became my means of helping other veterinarians and business owners like myself, produce income and minimize taxation by structuring resources with integrated tools that work together. The difference is not just a retirement portfolio, but a living income with growth potential to maximize earnings.
